County Museum of History
The Person County Museum of History is
located at 309 North Main St. in the former home of W.W. Kitchin,
governor of the state from 1809 to 1813. Museum complex includes
the Kitchin home, Woodsdale General Store, Dr. John H. Merritt's
office, a tobacco barn, and Van Hook Subscription School. Call 336-597-2884

A highlight of the museum is an intriguing display of more than
250 dolls. This museum has been called "The best little museum
in the country" by visitors. The enchanting Victorian Wedding
Room with the wedding party in full garb is complemented by a
Victorian parlor, dining room and bedroom, also complete with
dolls. The 1810 Subscription School is believed to be one of the
oldest in North Carolina. Variety is the emphasis of this historical
museum. From the Baseball Hall of Famer Enos Slaughter Display
featuring the replica of the statue depicting his winning slide
of the 1946 World Series to the display honoring the only North
Carolinian to win the Congressional Medal of Honor, Robert Lester
Blackwell, the museum has something for everyone. Exhibits focus
on Black History, Native Americans, the Titanic and the military
with the Military Room boasting uniforms from each branch of service
from the American Revolution, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korean War
and Vietnam War. Displays are updated often and special commemorative
Tourism Authority including historical reenactments are held throughout
the year. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 10a.m. -
2p.m. and other times by appointment. Admission is free. For more

Uptown Roxboro Walking Tour
The Roxboro Historic Commercial District
listed in the National Register of Historic Sites is featured in
the tour as well as the Person County Museum of History and homes
of varying architecture and style. Take a break from your tour and
order a float at an authentic drugstore soda fountain or visit any

Kirby
Civic Auditorium
Cultural arts Tourism Authority including live theater,
dance and concerts are the norm in this recently restored former
movie house. Past and future headliners include Doc Watson, The
Embers and Mike Cross with year-round local productions. This facility
retains its original theater marquee topped with KIRBY sign of individual
light bulbs, original entrance and round ticket booth. Call the

Memorial Music Academy Concert Series
Features local and visiting artists. Previous performances
ranging from "a foot-stomping afternoon of bluegrass, folk
songs, ragtime, traditional Irish songs" by Micheal and Friends
to the mixed concert of holiday classical and popular music of NC
