| LICENSES
Auto Registration Plates
All new residents of North Carolina are required to purchase license
plates upon establishing residency. Contact the Department of Motor
Vehicles on Highway #49 South (597-5636) for information regarding
purchasing plates and vehicle inspections. Liability insurance is required
on all vehicles and a certificate of insurance from the insurer must be
presented with the application for license. The fee for passenger car
plates is $20.00. You may register your car and purchase plates at the
North Carolina License Plate Agency, 230 South Main Street (in front of
Post Office). For information call: 507-4809. Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00
a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Driver's License
All residents are required to have a North Carolina Driver's License which
may be obtained at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Applicants must take
the oral or written examination and are subject , to a driving test. At
the time for renewal drivers are required to take the eye exam and road
sign test. A Class C (regular) driver's license is $2.50 per year (varying
from 4 to 8 years). Contact the DW for information on Class A and B
driver's licenses. All licenses expire on your birthday. You are required
to have your address changed within 60 days. The fee is $10.00. For more

Minibike Operation
A license is required to operate on public streets and highways. Operators
must be at least age 16.
Hunting and Fishing License
Contact the sporting goods stores or hardware stores listed in the phone
directory for information.
Marriage License
A marriage license is valid for 60 days after the issue date. There is no
waiting period. The couple must present a certified copy of their birth
certificates and show their driver's licenses or Social Security Cards. If
either person has been divorced they must present a copy of the judgment.
If either party in the couple wishing to be married is under 18 their
parents are required to sign the marriage license. The cost of the license
is $40.00 and may be obtained at the Register of Deed's Office, Person
County Court House, Monday through Friday, 8:3 0 a.m. - 4: 00 p.m.,
597-7221.
Business License
All places of business in the city are required to have a privilege
license which may be obtained from the City Tax Collector's Office in the
Municipal Building, 105 South Lamar Street. For specific information:
599-3116.
VOTER REGISTRATION
To become a registered voter you must be 1) a citizen of the United
States and 2) a resident of Person County for at least 30 days prior to
the next election. For more information call the Person County Board of
Elections at 597-1727 or visit the office in the Person County Office
Building, 304 South Morgan Street.

MISCELLANEOUS
Dog Vaccinations
Dogs must be vaccinated for rabies after the age of four months.
Vaccinations may be obtained at the Roxboro Animal Hospital, 520
Burlington Road (599-8303) or Woodsdale Animal Hospital, 430 South Morgan
Street (599-0611) for a fee of $12.00. The replacement tag for the
vaccination is $3.00. An Animal Control Officer may be contacted by
calling 597-1741.
Public Safety
Roxboro and Person County are covered by a 911 system that enables callers
to report fires, crimes, accidents, and other emergency situations by
dialing 9-1-1.
Tax Listing
All residents are required to list both real and personal property for
taxes. The listing time is January 1-31 each year. Taxes are listed
through the mailing system. County taxes are paid at the tax office
located in the Court House (597-7215). City taxes are paid at the City
Municipal Building on Lamar Street (599-3116).
Person County Council on Aging
A Senior Citizen's Guide to Services is available at the Senior Center,
121A Depot Street, 599-7484.
Social Security Administration
Representatives from the Durham office of the Social Security
Administration see clients on a first come, first-served basis each
Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. - noon at the Senior Center, 12 1 A Depot
Street.
Passport Application
Passports can be obtained through the Clerk of Court office located
in the Courthouse. Please allow 10-12 weeks processing time when
applying.
