Since 1967 Person County United Way has been bringing people and resources together to identify health and human needs in the community, then organizing local resources to address those needs throughout Person County. From Meals on Wheels, to affordable daycare, to advocating for families, United Way addresses the breadth of needs that vary from household to household. The main way that the community is aided, is through the funding of 16 partner Agencies, which are independent, local, non-profit, organizations that each directly serve individuals with needs. United Way believes that funding these organizations is one of the most efficient, effective ways for resources to be channeled into the community, and we recognize that these agencies have the know-how to make your dollars “stretch” to their greatest potential. The 16 partner agencies United Way supports must meet high standards, including getting measurable results that improve lives.
The Community IMPACT areas United Way addresses in building a stronger, healthier community are:
Meeting Basic Needs and Building Self-Sufficiency agencies provide food, shelter, clothing, basic medical care and educational opportunities to form a social safety net of essential services in our community.
United Way has always been committed to assuring that such a safety net is in place and that individuals can get help with basic needs and have assistance in moving toward self-sufficiency.
Helping Children and Youth to succeed in becoming responsible citizens’ partner agencies offer school readiness programs, after-school and recreational activities for children, helping them reach their full potential.
Young people learn to say no to gangs and drugs, and are encouraged to stay in school and discover the value of directing their energy in productive ways.
In Promoting Health and Wellness partner agencies provide the resources that lead to healthy lifestyles. People take advantage of educational programs that provide information about prevention and early detection of disease. Our agencies also offer support for those dealing with the challenge of serious illness.
